How to fit slotted basin waste
Installing a slotted basin waste is a straightforward process that can be completed by anyone with basic plumbing skills. Whether you’re replacing an old waste or installing a new one, this step-by-step guide will help you navigate the process with ease.
Before you begin, it’s important to gather all the necessary tools and materials. You’ll need a slotted basin waste kit, an adjustable wrench, plumber’s putty, a basin wrench, and a towel or rag to catch any water that may spill during the process.
To start, turn off the water supply to the basin. This can usually be done by turning off the shut-off valves located under the sink. Once the water is off, place the towel or rag underneath the basin to catch any water that may still be in the pipes.
Next, use the basin wrench to remove the old waste. This can be done by reaching up underneath the basin and unscrewing the nut that connects the waste to the bottom of the basin. Once the nut is removed, you can pull out the old waste from the top of the basin. Be sure to clean the area around the waste to ensure a proper seal with the new waste.
Now it’s time to install the new slotted basin waste. Apply a small amount of plumber’s putty to the bottom edge of the waste, then insert it into the hole in the basin. From below, hand-tighten the nut onto the waste until it is secure. Use the adjustable wrench to tighten the nut further, being careful not to overtighten and damage the basin.
Finally, turn on the water supply and check for any leaks. If everything looks good, you’re all set! You’ve successfully fitted your slotted basin waste and can now enjoy a properly functioning basin.
